  • 'Glossary': Lists of definitions (e.g. a 'viva' is a British dissertation defense; 'ABD' stands for a student who has completed all requirements but the dissertation; etc.) that will enable graduate students from various countries to understand one another while visiting here.

  • 'Notes from the Risen': Links to off-site articles written by folks who've had stop-and-start (or just plain 'stop'!) graduate school experiences. There are a lot of Ph.D. and Master's Phoenixes out there, and this section will show you just how many people have trod your path.

  • 'The Phoenix Diaries': On-going journals kept by those who are currently negotiating life after a break from or cessation of graduate school.

  • 'Tips and Tricks': A list of pointers from the experts (a.k.a. present and former graduate students like you!).

  • 'Phoenix Board': An area that allows visitors to introduce themselves and post their situations before leaping to PhinisheD -- our site's recommended message board. (Your hostess credits PhinisheD with saving her sanity and providing her with the intellectual community that she never found in her doctoral program; she believes that it might also work wonders for you!)

  • 'What Now?': A page featuring counsel that might help you to negotiate your leave of absence, forced withdrawal, or voluntary withdrawal with minimum pain -- and maybe even grand style! (e.g. Phoenix Rising is currently arranging for a semi-regular column -- written by an expert on graduate school attrition -- that will provide a virtual tool-kit for life after school.)
